urbex, or urban exploring, is the polite term for tresspassing onto abandoned properties with the intent to just look around a little bit, and is something i've been doing for a very long time! i would certainly argue that one of the best ways to get me into an abandoned building is to say "wait, no, don't go in there! it's abandoned and spooky and possibly dangerous, and also trespassing is illegal!". this phrase is a siren call to me.

i got into urbex when i was in my mid teens, as most people tend to do. my city had a silly gimmicky ghost tour running and my friends and i decided to go on it for shits and giggles. they brought us to this dilapidated hospital and told us all sorts of spoooooky tales about ghosts and disembodied screams and spectral figures and the like, and then told us we couldn't go in. and i just thought it was such a waste to let this beautiful old building rot without ever knowing what it looked like inside, so my friends and i returned a few weeks later and got in on our own. it's been downhill from there!
