diadem leaf-nosed bat (hipposideros diadema) ✸ sex unknown ✸ 3.1cm

this skull is a very tiny, delicate little thing that i purchased at an oddities expo while it was in my town. this is a native species to australia, sometimes also known as the roundleaf bat, and was collected and cleaned by it's seller. it's so tiny and delicate that it's hard to get a good look at, and it's mandible has been glued on. i don't know a whole lot about bat skulls so unfortunately i can't really determine much from this one!

what i will say, however, is that if you are purchasing bat skulls or specimens, do ask where they come from. a lot of commercially sold bat specimens are unethically killed for sale and it is causing problems to the bat populations - here's some great info over on reddit about it. i only bought this one because the seller was able to confirm they had found and cleaned it's naturally found carcass! there's nothing wrong with having bat specimens, but it will never hurt to ask legitimate sellers where they came from. anyone being cagey and defensive about a question like that is probably hiding something
