with an absolutely whopping 2hr 45m runtime and being entirely in russian, i was not sure i'd get through this film. i read the book way back in january and thoroughly enjoyed it, and i really did not want to watch the 2002 adaptation with george clooney in it. luckily for me, this movie was fantastic and i had no problem getting through it. i felt it was very faithful to the book, and i really love that cassette futurism aesthetic that media from this time period often had. visual delight. i loved this movie!!
THE SUN DOG (1990) - Stephen King
book • horror
★★★☆☆
• AUG 09
a book about a polaroid camera and the weird dog in all of the photos it takes. i really like this one, i prefer stephen king's shorter stories over his full legnth novels because honestly, he cannot write an ending to save his life. that is still obvious in THE SUN DOG, my man is a rambling yapper, i can tell you that much. however, i think this one reads like a more mature goosebumps book, so i'm very attached to it.

• JUN 28

i'm replaying this once again because it's easily one of my favourite things to revisit when i kind of just want to be miserable, yknow? & i'm on a quest to 100% a bunch of my games on steam.

this is a beautiful psychological horror rpg disguised as a cutesy little adventure game. it is a deeply touching story about trauma and grief, very much an all time favourite of mine. i love media that's about childhood friends going through The Horrors and this game has that in more than one way, AND has a beautiful soundtrack that is my go-to background noise (my fav track is easily remember to be patient, not only because it's beautiful but because i adore the area it plays in).

i think this game really speaks to me because it gives me a lot of nostalgia for my own childhood; my childhood best friends and i were a group of four and were so inseperable that any time one of us showed up anywhere without the rest in tow, the first thing people would do is ask "where's the rest of you?". unfortunately something happened, disrupted our lives, and we all drifted apart and scattered. it has been over a decade since i spoke to any of them. it was simpler and easier and nothing in your life will ever be like the bonds you had when you were 12, and this is one of my favourite themes in the game - though it is mostly about facing your mistakes head on and enduring consequences.

i saw people calling this "friendslop" which has got to be the funniest way to admit you have no friends to play games with. this game is so much fun and almost ended my friendship several times. what a delight, and also absolutely fine to play solo! still enjoyable!

i really enjoyed this book!! it's a collection of short stories; some based in an already existing series, some completely unique. i have to say though, the very first short (and the origin of book's title) is easily my favourite. overall, really nice book! lots of stuff in there that piqued my interest in her other work and i will be keeping my eyes out for her other work
LONG GONE DAYS (2023)

• JUN 10
a beloved little indie rpg about war and navigating conflict, which i hold dearly to my heart. LGD is a game i have been following since it's first chapter early access release in 2019! i have loved watching this game grow over the years into it's now final and completed version. the art is beautiful, the world and characters are crafted so lovingly. you get choices, you get different endings. it's just a delight from start to finish, i cannot recommend it enough. this is the first time i've picked it up since the final version was released in 2023, i just wanted to go through and clean up any achievements i missed :)

★★★☆☆
• APR 27
cute little indie horror about skinwalker-y creatures
THE MONKEY (2025)
movie • horror
★★★★☆
• APR 26
my friends will attest to this when i say i was absolutely delightfully hooked on the concept of this movie the second i saw the trailer in january, and heard the words "hello brother. the monkey that likes killing our family. it's back." immediately sold on this movie. if there's one opinion i maintain, it's that i fuuuucking hated LONGLEGS (2024), and i did see that this movie was made by the same producers, so i was fully prepared to be disappointed by THE MONKEY. i am, however, a stephen king fangirl first and human being second, so i went to the cinema fully ready to hate this movie.

WRONG. i have never been so wrong. within the first 5 minutes i turned to my friend and said holy shit this is going to be the best movie i've ever seen. it was so much fun. unserious, silly goofy, hyperviolent gorefest where one (1) actor plays the two main protagonist twins, it was so silly it kept catching me off guard and i had SO much fun watching it. easily best release of the year so far. it's like if the FINAL DESTINATION franchise took itself less seriously and also it wasn't death who's the bad guy, but a stupid little monkey with a drum. i am detracting ONE single point from my overall scoring on this purely because the line from the trailer that got me in the first place wasn't even in the movie. hate it here fr

IB (2012)
game • horror, rpg
★★★★☆
• APR 20
this is possibly one of the most iconic early 2010's rpgmaker horror games, and something i played around it's release! i love this game dearly, it's a horror rpg following a young girl who gets stuck in a cursed art gallery. it was recently revamped and re-released on steam with updated graphics and a mechanics overhaul, so i revisited it and streamed it to some friends. still a wonderful game, i really enjoyed the new content and the tweaks that were added. this was such a staple game of my childhood, it's hard not to love it, but i certainly do recommend it to anyone looking for a quick little spooky puzzle game
REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA (2008)
movie • horror, musical
★★★★★
• APR 15
this is genuinely one of the best worst movies of all time. i am possibly REPO's #1 fangirl and have been since middle school, and i force everyone i know to watch it the second i get the opportunity to, and YOU are not immune! this movie is a delightful trainwreck; it's about a dystopian future where an epidemic of organ failure means those who loan money for organ transplants will have them reposessed if they can't pay up. it's an absolutely bonkers rock opera horror musical. most of the music sucks, many of the performances are lacking in uh, musical talent. but if you think you can suspend your expectations for just a few hours and allow this deranged, colourful, insane, bloody gorey mess of a world tell you it's story, i am absolutely begging you to check this movie out for free on archive.org!
★★★★☆

FALLOUT: NEW VEGAS (2010)
game • rpg
★★★★★
• APR 09
i feel like if you've been on the internet for some amount of time, you probably don't need another person yapping in your ear about how fnv is one of the best rpgs of all time and absolutely blows any other fallout game out of the water. but i'm gonna do it anyway.

this is not my first time playing fnv, but it is my first time in a while doing so. i think i probably last picked this up in 2015, somewhere around the end of high school, i think i re-played it in anticipation of fallout 4's release. i am definitely fo4's biggest defender and i don't think it deserves the hate it gets, but i cannot disagree that fnv is one of the most interesting and involved games out there, and 4 was a disappointment in comparison to new vegas. the story is fun, the worldbuilding is endless, there are a thousand choices you can make that really feel like they mean something. combat isn't the go-to and there are some situations you simply can't shoot your way out of. the perks and levelling system is a lot of fun, your build will decide what dialogue options you can chose and it does directly impact how the game's world reacts to you. most importantly, the player character, courier six, is a completely blank slate. there is no backstory to the courier, you are totally free to do whatever the hell you want without having to worry about a backstory narrative that the game is trying to shoehorn in (this, i believe, was fo4's biggest flaw).

is the game janky, unstable, and prone to crashing? yes absolutely. is my favourite companion voiced by a man who is now a blatant trump supporter and conspiracy theorist nutcase? yes, unfortunately. it is a 15 year old game and it isn't without it's flaws, but all that means is there's been 15 years of community to work out these flaws and make unofficial patches that make the game run smoothly today. if you've ever eyed it up but been hesitant due to it's age or endearingly ugly graphics, i strongly urge you to give it a go regardless. this is easily one of my favourite games of all time, i have loved it since i was 13 and get just as much enjoyment out of playing it now as i did over a decade ago <3

this was pretty good actually! bit out of the usual for me - this is a political thriller about the election of a new pope, and the internal conflicts between candidates that come with such a position of power. i was idly enjoying it in the background up until the climax and that did manage to really surprise me. very good ending. it's also very pretty on a cinematography level; i visited the vatican in 2017 on a europe trip and was immediately struck by how pristine and gorgeous everything was, so i really quite appreciated it being hilighted in this film.

this covers a norwegian crime drama series that i re-read during a week long power outage! i love these books a lot, they're really silly actually without meaning to be. they real like a criminal minds episode, very middle aged women crime fiction kind of novel. there's 16 books total, but i managed to get through the first four!

this is a wonderful little 2d pixel rpg about taking your first car on a cross-country roadtrip to a festival! there's multiple endings, there's charming characters and hitchhikers to pick up along the way that give you buffs or boons. buy stuff to help you on the road, upgrade and customise your car, get sidetracked and help people and explore towns. very oregon trail in terms of gameplay but with a little more control over how things go. this game is great! i enjoyed it a lot, and will certainly be replaying until i get all those endings.

oh this had me hooked instantly. played this at the request of a friend. this is a fast paced microgame-focused game about playing a series of minigames in your opponent's mind. this is a free demo for an upcoming game, you can and should check it out on steam! it only takes about 30min to get through and is a fantastic introduction. the music is banging, the first level is so much fun. i cannot wait for the full game!!!
HERETIC (2024)

• FEB 17
this movie was okay. I am usually an a24 girly and I do like most of their movies that I watch, but I’ll admit - I wasn’t necessarily looking forward to this one. religion based horror feels like a cop out to me, it’s so easy to make a demon and call it a day, yknow? it feels cheap. however, it’s a24, so I thought I’d give it a shot since I saw it on my streaming site. I actually really quite liked the setup of the first half, despite my reservations going into it and seeing ‘weird old man locks two young missionaries in his house’. predictable as hell, I thought. but no, once the premise was fleshed out, I was very interested. our two main girls are smart! reasonable! not played for a joke! did I love it in the end? eh! it was alright. i ended up being right about what was gonna happen. I liked the atmosphere, it builds good tension and had a relatively unique premise. kind of silly, kind of ridiculous. the exposition dump at the end was like a murder mystery novel reveal LMAO
THE ODYSSEY (1997)

i love the odyssey but never actually watched this movie! it's alright. it's aged, obviously, and doesn't cover a lot of my favourite sections of the novel. i enjoyed it anyway though! if anything else, it was nice to have a prelude to the christopher nolan movie that's coming out next year. i really liked the way they did scylla and charybdis, i love a gooood fleshy creature full of teeth

this was a wonderful little book. i'd never heard of it before, but i came across it at my local bookstore recently. i absolutely adore older sci-fi, stuff from the 50s and 60s is some of my favourite. it all has a very star trek feel to it, which i adore. this was such a cool take on aliens - not little beings or creatures, but a sentient ocean - which is easily one of my favourite depictions of alien life forms. i almost wanted to tag this as cosmic horror, in a way, but i felt like it would discredit the actual space-y scifi worldbuilding that went into this. great book! thoroughly enjoyed.
